About: Historic Rapid City

Initially established in 1992 as The Feigel Foundation, Historic Rapid City's mission is "to preserve historic sites and landmarks" such as the home of Valentine McGillycuddy. Situated on a softly rolling hillside and adjacent to a major roadway, an area which has since been developed and referred to today as Mount Rushmore Road, the two-story Stick-style house sits high on a locally quarried, multicolored sandstone foundation. This was certainly one of the grandest homes in the area when he build it in 1887 for his lovely young wife, Fanny.
